Meet the Artist - Pete Marsh
Tell us about a bit about your work...
All my work is representational more often involving landscape or figurative subject matter. My fascination in the way light (whether natural or artificial) creates mood or atmosphere regularly seems to play an important role in my work.
I graduated in Fine Art: Painting and Printmaking so it should come as no surprise that most of my work involves painting and printmaking with oils being my preferred painting medium and monotype being my current preferred printmaking medium. I seem to have moved away from etching and lino-cut in recent years. I find the immediacy and more painterly tactile nature of monotypes suits the way I work but who knows I may return to lino-cut and etching one day…never say never.

Any particular artists you admire?
The artists that I admire are artists that elicit/provoke/evoke an emotional response from me. I want to be moved. The list of my influential artists is too long for this blog but a recent fantastic “find” has been the Australian painter Arthur Streeton. I love his work. I had no knowledge of this artist until about six and a half years ago when I stumbled across his work in Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney..
What have you been working on recently?
The last twelve months have largely been spent working on a series of monotypes and paintings inspired my most recent visit to Australia. Interspersed with this series have been three commissions, each of which presented different challenges.
