Jan 2025

Jan 2025 - Jane Murphy Northern Glass Lass

2024 (where did that year go)

I've thoroughly enjoyed the glass work commissions I've completed through 2024, they were often presents for loved ones, and included the names of daughters and grandchildren ( Ben, Alex, Sara, Lucy).

A commission from a fellow artist at the end of year also gave me the greatest challenge. Yin-Yang followed John's design, it was demanding in its intricacy, symmetry and glass texture matching. I'm pleased to say John was happy with the outcome. So to the start of 2025 and a new commission from another fellow FaMAS artist, Cat Kitty Calderbank - so watch this space...

I continue to be available for new opportunities and commissions, including landscapes. 'Your favourite place'; capture a cherished moment in a lasting heirloom. Approximately A4 sized starts at £140.

Come and say hi at the next Open Studios (I'm in J2studio on floor 2), where I will demo stained glass making processes.

Jan 2025 - Nadeem Baghdadi

Nadeem’s paintings are powerful and ethereal, embodying the essence of contemporary abstract expressionism. Through uninhibited strokes and bold compositions, his paintings aim to move viewers on a deep, emotional level. Each artwork is a journey, inviting the observer to explore the dynamic interplay of colour, form, and movement. Drawing inspiration from the natural world around him, Nadeem’s work captures the energy and spirit of the landscapes that surround him. Nadeem looked and studied intensely the form and surrounding aspects of life, the clouds, the skies and the lakes and rivers around him. “Living in Lancashire, I am constantly inspired by the open spaces, vast skies, billowing clouds, and sprawling fields that define this beautiful region. These natural elements fuel my creativity and serve as the foundation for my artistic expression”.

Nadeem’s artistic journey is a continuous exploration of the power of art to evoke emotion and create feelings. His contemporary abstract expressionist paintings strive to convey a sense of wonder and transcendence, leaving a lasting impact on those who encounter his work.

Recently, Nadeem has been working hard on Echoes of Resilience, an exciting community project. Read more about it here

The refugee art project, funded by the Arts Council England, aimed to provide a platform and a safe environment for the refugee community of Blackburn and Darwen to express their thoughts and voices through the medium of art. The art workshops took place in the community gallery based in the Blackburn Art Museum, held one day a week for seven weeks. Due to the overwhelming response and dedication of the participants, a Refugee Arts Alliance (RAA) was formed. The RAA includes several members on its board, including a counsellor, the Museum, the Blackburn with Darwen Council, and Nadeem Baghdadi, who directed and led the project. Nadeem Baghdadi is a community education and lifelong learning tutor as well as an artist based in Blackburn.

Jan 2025 - Julia Preston - SulikoSoul

I have recently enjoyed getting back into painting after having focused on my jewellery work over the autumn period. I have started some mixed-media work - nothing too serious, but it's good to experiment with different materials occasionally. I am looking forwards to an acrylic painting day workshop in April with Paul Talbot-Greaves, whose work I admire. My next exhibition entry is at Aire Place Studios, Leeds, with a pomegranate piece for their still life show.

As for jewellery, I took part in a range of in-person events from November, including Crafts in the Pen, Skipton. I'll be returning to the auction mart in March for ArtisanMadeUK, a relatively new trade fair event, run by the same team. I also exhibited at "Under the Tree", a curated exhibition at MAKE Southwest in Bovey Tracey, Devon. I'll be adding more dates to the diary for in-person events as the year progresses!

My artwork can be viewed here and my jewellery here. My main website is here and I post regularly on Instagram @sulikosoulart
